Education and Care

Stress, we all suffer from it to some degree and it creates a fight or flight response in our biological processes. This means it goes into overdrive producing various hormones.

But how does this affect our skin?

Excess cortisol production is one of the main symptoms of stress. This means that any prone skin conditions; acne, rosacea, dermatitis, psoriasis, or eczema will often flare up. It can cause your face to flush and break out in rashes, sometimes hives.

The excess cortisol also means an over production of oil, meaning our skin often becomes clogged, shiny and we find breakouts on different parts of the body.

Now, unfortunately we can’t stop adulting, and as such, stress is always going to be a part of our lives to some extent! So how can we help our skin?

A good skin routine is paramount. Make sure you are using the correct (personalised) Medical Grade skincare and you are having Manual exfoliations monthly, to ensure your skin is working efficiently. Try showering morning and before going to bed; use a non fragranced and non irritating body wash. If you go to the gym, shower immediately after a work out and wash your face too!

Hydration is key. Stressed skin is dehydrated skin; ensure you are drinking enough and you are applying Hyaluronic Acid plus a good moisturiser to keep your skin in good condition.

Sleep also is key in maintaining skin health, reducing eye bags & ensuring our cell regeneration stays functioning efficiently.

Other excellent ways to manage your skin stress is; Phototherapy, massage, acupuncture and reflexology.

Most of all, find ways to relax that work for you! Meditation, massage, yoga etc… mental health and managing our triggers are a huge part of our health in general and should NEVER been seen as a luxury!

The knock on effect stress has on the body is astronomical and should tell us that our own mental health is one of the most important things we should be looking after!
